Reformer pilates · Alder Bay
Reformer pilates, taught with precision.
Twelve reformers in a sunlit room on Marlow Row. Classes of fifty minutes, springs set for you, and an instructor who watches your form, not the clock.

The method
Slow enough to get it right. Hard enough to notice.
The reformer is a sliding carriage held by springs. More springs, more resistance; fewer springs, more control. We teach every class around that idea, so the same machine suits a first-timer and someone who has practiced for ten years.
-
Springs, not weights
Resistance that pulls both ways, so you work as you push out and as you control the return. Your instructor changes the springs for each exercise.
-
Twelve in a room
Never more than twelve reformers, and two instructors in Foundations. Small enough that cues are personal and your name is known by week two.
-
Form before tempo
We slow a movement down until it is right, then build it up. You will never be rushed through a sequence to keep up with the music.

Reformer Foundations
The machine explained, one part at a time: footwork, the straps, the long box and how to change your own springs. Two instructors, eight reformers, plenty of time for questions.

A full-body class that moves from one exercise to the next without long pauses. The one most members book twice a week.

Sculpt & Springs
Heavier springs, longer holds and slow counts. Expect to shake a little. Best after a few Flow classes.

Jumpboard
A padded board at the foot of the reformer turns footwork into low-impact jumping, lying down. Lively music, short intervals.

Long, supported stretches on the reformer and the mat, with the lights low. A good second class of the week.

-
Margo
Founder · Foundations, Sculpt
Opened Corda after a decade teaching in larger studios. Known for one-word cues and patience with the long box.
-
Dev
Head instructor · Flow, Jumpboard
Former dancer. Builds sequences you can follow without watching, and playlists people ask about.
-
Hana
Instructor · Sculpt, Flow
The slow-count specialist. If a class feels hard in a quiet way, it was probably Hana's.
-
Rosa
Instructor · Restore, Foundations
Teaches the Sunday classes and most first-timers. Will happily explain the springs twice.
-
Theo
Instructor · Jumpboard, Flow
Early-morning regular. His 6:30 am Jumpboard is the fastest fifty minutes of the week.

Questions
Before you book.
Something else? Call the front desk on (555) 018-4420 or write to hello@corda-pilates.example.
I've never done pilates. Where do I start?
Book Reformer Foundations first. It has two instructors, eight reformers and a slower pace, and it's included in the intro offer. After one or two, Reformer Flow is the natural next class.
What's the difference between reformer and mat pilates?
Mat pilates uses your body weight on the floor. The reformer adds a sliding carriage and springs, which can make a movement easier to learn or much harder to do slowly. All of our classes are on the reformer.
What should I wear and bring?
Fitted clothes you can move in (loose tops ride up when you lie back) and grip socks. Your first pair is free; after that they're $14 at the desk. Water, towels and lockers are here.
What's your cancellation policy?
Cancel up to twelve hours before class and the class goes back on your account. Later than that, or a no-show, and the class is used. If a class is full, join the waitlist: we text you when a reformer opens up.
Can I come if I'm pregnant or recovering from an injury?
Talk to your own doctor first, then let us know before you book so we can suggest a class and an instructor. We're movement teachers, not clinicians, and we'll never ask you for medical details online.
Do you offer private sessions?
Yes, on weekday afternoons: $95 for 50 minutes, or $160 for two people. Call the front desk to find a time with the instructor you'd like.
Your reformer is waiting.
