# How many pages does a small business website need?

By the Cider Websites team · Updated October 11, 2026 · 6 min read

## The short answer

Most small business websites need 5 to 15 pages: a home page, a page for each main service, an about page, a contact page, and a few extras such as a menu, a gallery or an FAQ. Larger firms and multi-location businesses need more. A one-page site can work for a business with one simple offer, but a separate page for each core service or location helps people find you in search. Start with the pages you need now; you can always add more later.

## Most small businesses need 5 to 15 pages

Each page on a website should have one job: explain one service, answer one kind of question, or get one kind of visitor to take the next step. Count the jobs your site has to do, and you have a good estimate of how many pages it needs.

For most small businesses, that comes to between five and fifteen, and larger firms and businesses with several locations often need more. Too few, and everything gets crammed onto a long home page that's hard to scan on a phone. Too many, and you end up with thin pages nobody reads and more to keep up to date.

### The core pages almost every business needs

- **Home:** what you do, where, and the main action you want visitors to take.
- **Services:** an overview, plus a page for each service you want to be found for.
- **About:** who you are, your experience, licenses and why to choose you.
- **Contact:** address, phone, hours, a map and a form or booking link.
- **One to three extras** that suit your business: a menu, pricing, a gallery of work, reviews, an FAQ or a page for new customers.

## When a one-page website is enough

A one-page site puts everything on a single scrolling page, with the menu jumping to each section. It can be a good choice when:

- you offer one thing, such as a single service, a food truck or a pop-up;
- you're new and want something simple and professional online quickly;
- the site is for an event, a launch or a short campaign;
- most of your customers find you by name rather than by searching for a service.

### When a one-page site holds you back

Search engines match a search to a page, and a page about one thing usually beats a page about everything. If you offer several services, serve several towns, or want to be found by people who don't know your name yet, a single page makes that much harder. It also gets long on a phone, and it only has one title and description to show in search results.

## Typical pages by type of business

These are typical starting points, not rules. Your own count depends on how many services and locations you have, and how much there is to say about each.

| Business | Typical pages | Usual count |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Café, bakery or restaurant | Home, menu, about, visit us (hours and map), catering or private events, ordering or reservations (linked), contact | 5 to 7 |
| Trade: plumber, electrician, landscaper, contractor | Home, a page per main service, service areas, about (licenses and insurance), reviews, recent work, contact or quote | 8 to 15 |
| Practice: dentist, salon, spa, yoga studio | Home, services or treatments, team, new clients and what to expect, pricing, booking (linked), contact | 7 to 12 |
| Professional firm: law, accounting, architecture | Home, a page per practice area, people and bios, about, insights or FAQ, contact | 10 to 25 |
| Multi-location business | Home, a page per location (address, hours, map, local photos), services, about, contact | The core pages plus one per location |

## Why separate pages help you get found

People search for specific things: "emergency plumber in Tacoma", "gluten-free bakery near me", "divorce lawyer Portland". A page about exactly that, with its own title, description and heading, gives search engines something clear to match. The same goes for chat-style search tools, which tend to quote pages that answer one question well.

- **One page per core service** you want to be found for. Small related services can share a page.
- **One page per location**, if you have more than one, with that location's own address, hours, photos and details.
- **A clear FAQ** for the questions customers ask before they get in touch.

More pages only help when each one says something different. Dozens of near-identical pages that swap only the town name can be treated as spam by search engines and do more harm than good.

## How Cider Websites launches map to page counts

Our launch fees are set by how many pages your site needs, so you can pick one from your page count. Every launch includes a free first draft, a design that works on phones, search-ready titles and descriptions, and the launch on your own domain.

| Launch | Pages | Changes before launch | Price (one time) | Usually suits |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Website launch | Up to 5 pages | 5 rounds of changes | $499 | A café, shop, single trade or small practice with a handful of services |
| Pro launch | Up to 15 pages | Unlimited rounds of changes | $999 | A growing business with several services, service areas or locations |
| Signature launch | Up to 30 pages | Unlimited rounds of changes | $2,000 | A larger firm or group that also wants a logo |
| Custom quote | More than 30 pages | Unlimited rounds of changes | A fixed quote from our team | Bigger sites, several locations or brands, or special features |

Need one or two more pages than your launch covers? An extra page is $49, so you don't have to move up a whole launch. Every price is on [our pricing page](https://ciderwebsites.com/pricing).

## How to plan your website's pages

1. **List what customers ask you.** The questions you answer on the phone every week are the pages your site needs.
2. **List the services you want more of.** Give each one you want to be found for its own page.
3. **Group the small ones.** Related services that people rarely search for separately can share a page.
4. **Add locations only with something real to say.** A location page needs its own address, hours and photos, not just a different town name.
5. **Decide each page's one action.** Call, book, get a quote or visit. If a page has no clear action, ask whether it needs to exist.
6. **Sketch the menu.** Five to seven items in the main menu is plenty; anything more can sit inside a section or in the footer.
7. **Start lean.** Launch with the pages you need now, and add more once you see what visitors look for.

## Questions people ask

**Is a one-page website bad for SEO?**

Not bad, but limited. A single page can be found for your business name and one main service, but it's harder to be found for several services or towns, because each search usually matches a page about that one thing.

**How many pages should a website have for SEO?**

As many as you have genuinely different things to say: usually one per core service and location, plus the basics. Extra pages with thin or repeated content don't help and can hurt.

**Does the number of pages affect the price of a website?**

Usually, yes, because each page adds design and writing time. With us, the launch fee is set by page count, from $499 for the Website launch (up to 5 pages).

**Should every service have its own page?**

Every service you want to be found for, yes. Small related services that people don't search for separately can share one page.

**Can I add pages to my website later?**

Yes, and most sites grow over time. With us, an extra page is $49, and the care plan includes small edits each month.
