Website design for solo and small firms

# Solo attorney website design that *works while you're in court*

A solo attorney's website has to do the front desk's job: say which matters you take, show the person a new client will actually work with, and let the right people book a consultation without a phone call. We design and write it around your practice. Most solo practices fit the Website launch, $499, and you read a free first draft before anything is due.

- Free first draft
- Fixed price from $499
- Pay only at launch

We usually recommend the [Website launch](https://ciderwebsites.com/law-firms#prices): up to 5 pages, $499 once.

## What a solo law practice website needs

You by name, the matters you take and the ones you don't, fees in plain words, and booking that runs without a receptionist.

- **You, not a stock-photo firm** People who hire a solo attorney are hiring you: your photo, where you practiced before, your bar admissions and the courts you appear in, and a few lines in your own voice about how you work. A real portrait says more than any skyline or gavel.
- **The matters you take, and the ones you don't** A short, honest list of what you handle, each with a paragraph on who it's for and what a first meeting covers, plus a line on what you don't take that points callers to your state bar's lawyer referral service. You turn down fewer calls and keep your consultations for work you can accept.
- **Booking that doesn't need you** A consultation button on every page opens your Calendly, Clio Grow or Lawmatics booking page, so people pick a time while you're in a hearing. If you'd rather screen first, a short form asks only for contact details and the practice area, with a note that sending it doesn't make anyone your client.
- **Fees before the first call** Whether the consultation is free or paid, whether you work on flat fees, by the hour or on contingency, and how existing clients pay their invoices, in the words you give us. Stating it up front spares you the calls from people who were never going to retain you.
- **Your name as the responsible attorney** ABA Model Rule 7.2(d), which many states follow, asks that lawyer advertising, websites included, name a lawyer or firm responsible for it with contact details. For a solo that's you: your name, where you meet clients and the disclaimers your state requires, in the footer of every page. If you work from a home office or meet by video, the site says so rather than implying an office you don't keep.
- **Kept current without your billable hours** With the care plan, a new bar admission, changed hours or a new practice area is one of the 4 small edits a month: send an email and it's done. Nobody has to learn a website editor late at night.

## Sample sites we've designed

Sample sites for made-up businesses, designed to show what we do: open one on your phone and try it. On your site, booking and payment buttons open the tools you already use.

## The pages a solo law practice site usually has

- Home
- Practice areas: the matters you take
- About you: background and bar admissions
- Fees and consultations
- Contact, office and disclaimers

### Which plan fits

A solo or two-attorney practice usually says everything a new client needs on a handful of pages: the matters you take, who you are, how fees work and how to book. That's the **Website launch**: up to 5 pages for $499, paid once when you launch.

### What we link

Intake questionnaires, your calendar and invoice payments stay in the tools a small practice already pays for, and each button on the site opens the right one. Nothing confidential passes through the website, and switching tools later only means a new link.

- Clio Grow
- Lawmatics
- Calendly
- LawPay
- MyCase
- Google Business Profile

## What to get right

- **Looking bigger than you are** "& Associates" with no associates, "our team" over a stock photo, or offices you don't staff can mislead a reader, and ABA Model Rule 7.1, which every state's rules echo in some form, bars misleading statements about a lawyer's services. We write "I" or "we" as your practice really is.
- **Every practice area under the sun** Listing every kind of law to catch every call makes a solo look like a generalist and fills your voicemail with matters you'll refer out. A short list, with a section for each, reads as a practice that knows its work.
- **A message box with no warning** An open form with no note invites a stranger to send their whole story before you've checked for conflicts. Ours asks for contact details and the practice area, with a line that sending it creates no attorney-client relationship, or the button opens your intake tool instead.
- **Set up once, then left alone** An old phone number, a missing bar admission or last year's hours tell a visitor the practice may be gone too. The care plan's small edits keep the site current from a short email.

## How it works

Three steps, and most of the work is ours.

1. 5 minutes **Tell us about your business** The short form, or a chat with the team. Send photos, your logo, your menu: whatever you have.
2. 5 to 7 business days **Get your free first draft** Screenshots for computer and phone and a private preview link (2 to 3 business days with priority, overnight with rush). Ask for changes in plain words until it's right.
3. When you're ready **Approve, pay and launch** Pay the fixed launch fee only when you're happy. With the care plan, we put the site live on your domain and look after it; without it, we hand you the files to host yourself.

## Questions about solo law practice websites

**How much does a solo attorney website cost?**

Most solo attorneys choose the Website launch: $499 once for up to 5 pages, paid only after you've approved a free first draft. We write the words for every page, on every launch. The optional care plan, $49 a month, covers hosting, your domain, 4 small edits a month and support; without it, we hand you the site's files to host yourself. [See every price](https://ciderwebsites.com/law-firms#prices).

**Do solo attorneys need a website if referrals bring in most of the work?**

Usually, yes. A referred client still searches your name before calling, and your site is where they check your bar admissions, read how you charge and book a time. It also tells the lawyers who refer to you exactly which matters to send your way.

**Should I make my own site with a do-it-yourself builder or hire a designer?**

A do-it-yourself builder works if you have the evenings, but the writing, the disclaimers and every later change stay with you. We write and design each page for your practice, add the wording your state requires that you give us, and with the care plan make the edits, for a fixed fee you pay only once you like the draft.

**What pages does a small law firm website need?**

Most need a home page, a page on the matters you take, an about page with your bar admissions, a page on fees and consultations, and a contact page with your disclaimers. That fits the Website launch. If you want a page for each practice area or each town you serve, up to 15 pages fit the [Pro launch](https://ciderwebsites.com/law-firms/start?plan=launch_pro).

**Can my website screen out matters I don't take?**

Yes. The practice page says plainly what you handle, your booking page can ask for the practice area first, and a short note on what you don't take points other callers to the lawyer referral service. Your consultation hours go to matters you can accept.

**Will people find me when they search for a lawyer in my town?**

Page titles that name your practice and your city, your name, address and phone the same everywhere, and a complete Google Business Profile all help, though nobody can promise a position in results. For ongoing work on search and answer engines, add SEO & AEO care to the care plan.
