Website design for tax preparers

Tax preparation website design that fills the season's calendar

A tax preparer's website does most of its work in a few busy months, when people want this week's hours, what to bring, what a return costs and an appointment before the deadline. We build it around the season, with booking and your returning clients' upload one tap away. Go live before January on the Website launch: $499, owed only once you've approved a free first draft.

  • Free first draft
  • Fixed price from $499
  • Pay only at launch

We usually recommend the Website launch: up to 5 pages, $499 once.

What a tax preparation business website needs

Hours that change with the season, a what-to-bring checklist, prices as you post them, and booking and returning-client uploads one tap away.

  • Your hours, season by season

Tax-season hours, walk-in days, off-season appointments and extension-season hours on the first screen and in every footer, written in text search engines read and changed whenever your schedule does.

  • A what-to-bring checklist

W-2s and 1099s, last year's return, photo ID, Social Security cards for everyone on the return, childcare and tuition statements, and a voided check for direct deposit: a list people can print or read in the car saves a second visit.

  • Prices as you post them

Your fees for a simple return, itemized deductions, self-employment, rental income or a business return, in your words, or what drives the price if you quote each one. People who can see a price book sooner.

  • Booking for the rush

A Book an appointment button opens your scheduler, whether that's Calendly or your tax software's, with the appointment types you offer, including drop-off and remote returns, so the calendar fills before the season does.

  • Returning clients, straight to the upload

A Returning clients button opens your portal's secure upload, so this year's documents go where last year's went and not into an email or a text message thread.

  • Your credentials, exactly as issued

Enrolled agent, CPA or Annual Filing Season Program participant, each written the way the IRS or your state board allows. An enrolled agent may say "enrolled to practice before the Internal Revenue Service"; no preparer should claim to be certified by the IRS.

The pages a tax preparation business site usually has

  • Home
  • Services and prices
  • What to bring
  • Hours and appointments
  • Returning clients: upload and portal

Which plan fits

Most preparers say what matters on a handful of pages: services and prices, what to bring, hours and appointments, and a page for returning clients. That's the Website launch: up to 5 pages for $499, paid once when you launch.

What we link

Appointments book in your scheduler, documents go to your portal and signatures happen there too; the site's buttons open each one, and nothing personal passes through the website. Switch portals between seasons and we change the link.

  • TaxDome
  • SmartVault
  • Drake Portals
  • Calendly
  • Google Business Profile

What to get right

  • Credentials that overreach

Circular 230 (31 CFR §10.30) bars enrolled agents, and the other enrolled practitioners it names, from calling themselves "certified" or implying they work for the IRS. No preparer should use the IRS's name or logo to suggest a tie to it, either. We write your title the way the rules allow and nothing grander.

  • IRS look-alikes

The IRS logo or seal, "IRS approved", or a page styled like a notice from the IRS suggests a connection you don't have. Your brand stays your own, and the IRS appears only by name, in plain words.

  • Refund promises

Lines like "maximum refund, every time" or "your refund tomorrow" promise what the tax law and the IRS decide. We say what you prepare, how you check it and when people will hear from you, and make no claims about money.

  • Last season's details still up

Last April's hours, last year's checklist or "walk-ins welcome" on a closed office send people elsewhere. We update hours, prices and the checklist at the start and end of each season as part of your small edits.

How it works

Three steps, and most of the work is ours.

  1. 5 minutes

    Tell us about your business

The short form, or a chat with the team. Send photos, your logo, your menu: whatever you have.

  2. 5 to 7 business days

    Get your free first draft

Screenshots for computer and phone and a private preview link (2 to 3 business days with priority, overnight with rush). Ask for changes in plain words until it's right.

  3. When you're ready

    Approve, pay and launch

Pay the fixed launch fee only when you're happy. With the care plan, we put the site live on your domain and look after it; without it, we hand you the files to host yourself.

Questions about tax preparation business websites

How much does a tax preparation website cost?

Most tax preparers choose the Website launch: $499 once for up to 5 pages, paid only after you've approved a free first draft. Hosting, your domain and 4 small edits a month, enough for the season's new hours and prices, are the optional care plan at $49 a month. See every price.

When should a tax preparer launch a new website?

Before the season, ideally in the fall: people start looking for a preparer as their forms arrive in January, and the busiest weeks run up to the April deadline. The first draft is free in 5 to 7 business days, so there's time to go live before your first appointment.

Can returning clients upload documents on the site?

Through your portal, yes: a Returning clients button opens the secure upload in TaxDome, SmartVault, Drake Portals or whichever you use. Uploads land in the portal, and the website itself never touches them.

Can I put my prices on the site?

Yes, as you set them: a price per kind of return, a starting price, or what changes the price. People comparing preparers look for a price early, and seeing one makes the call to book easier.

Can I say I'm authorized by the IRS?

Say what's true, in the words the IRS allows: an enrolled agent is "enrolled to practice before the Internal Revenue Service", and an authorized IRS e-file provider may say so. No IRS logo, no "IRS approved", and no "certified" in an enrolled agent's title.

Who writes the checklist and the service pages?

We write the words for every page, on every launch. We start from your current checklist, your price sheet and a short call, keep the wording plain enough for a first-time filer, and you approve every page before it goes live.
