Website design for architects

Architect and interior design websites where the work leads

For an architecture or interior design studio, the website is the portfolio: it has to show the work at its best, explain how you work with clients, and make it easy for the right projects to get in touch. We build it around your photography, preparing every image to load fast without losing its color, and send a free first draft in 5 to 7 business days; you pay the fixed launch fee, from $499, only after approving it.

  • Free first draft
  • Fixed price from $499
  • Pay only at launch

We usually recommend the Pro launch: up to 15 pages, $999 once.

What an architecture firm website needs

Large images that still load fast, project pages with the story behind them, and an inquiry form that sets up the first call.

  • A portfolio that loads as well as it looks

Architectural photography is heavy. We size and compress every image for the screen asking for it, load images as people scroll and keep the color true, so a project opens quickly on a phone and still looks sharp on a large monitor.

  • Project pages with the story

The brief, the site, the constraints and the decisions that shaped the result: a few paragraphs, plans or sketches if you want to share them, the location and year, and the team, collaborators and photographer credited. This is often what a prospective client reads most closely.

  • How you work, explained

The phases from first meeting to handover, what you need from clients at each one, whether you offer full service, design only or consulting, and the kinds and sizes of project you take on. It sorts inquiries before the first call.

  • Work sorted by type, not a wall of thumbnails

Residential, commercial, hospitality, renovation, interiors: simple sections or filters, so a homeowner and a developer each find their kind of project within a few seconds.

  • An inquiry form that sets up the first call

Project type, location, rough timing and budget range, a short description and a link to plans or photos if they have them. Inquiries arrive by email, and a discovery-call button can open your scheduling tool.

  • The studio and its people

Principals and designers with a photo, their background, licenses and memberships such as AIA or ASID, and a short note on what each of them leads. Clients hire a firm, but they work with people.

  • Type you can read and images described

Big type is part of the look, but body text stays comfortable to read, and every project image has a short written description, which helps screen-reader users and gives search engines words to work with.

Sample sites we've designed

Sites we designed and built for made-up businesses, to show what we do: open one on your phone and try it. On your site, booking, ordering and shop buttons open the tools you already use.

See all the work

The pages an architecture firm site usually has

  • Home
  • Projects (a page for each featured project)
  • Studio and team
  • Services and process
  • Press and awards
  • Journal or news
  • Contact and project inquiries

Which plan fits

Practices with a large archive, or that want a senior design lead on the project, choose the Signature launch; most studios need room for a page per featured project on top of the studio, services and process pages. That's the Pro launch: up to 15 pages for $999, paid once when you launch.

What we connect

Discovery calls book through the scheduler you already use (Calendly or similar), and the site links out to your Instagram, Houzz or Pinterest and to the publications that featured your work. If you sell furniture, objects or prints, we link the shop you already have rather than build one.

Common mistakes, and how we avoid them

  • Full-size photography straight from the shoot

Files meant for print make a beautiful site crawl on a phone, and plenty of people leave before the first image appears. Every image should be prepared for the web and sized for the screen that shows it.

  • A portfolio with no words

Images alone don't say what the brief was, what was hard, or what your studio did as opposed to the builder or the engineer. Search engines can't look at a photo the way people do, so a project with no text is close to invisible to them.

  • Scroll effects that fight the reader

Motion should reveal the work, not hold it hostage. Hijacked scrolling, slow fades and text that waits for an animation make people wait; we keep motion quick and turn it down for anyone whose device asks for reduced motion.

  • No sense of scope or fit

When the site doesn't say which kinds of project, locations or budgets you take on, you spend calls turning down work that was never a fit. A clear services page lets the right clients recognize themselves.

How it works

Three steps, and most of the work is ours.

  1. 5 minutes

    Tell us about your business

The short form, or a chat with the team. Send photos, your logo, your menu: whatever you have.

  2. 5 to 7 business days

    Get your free first draft

Screenshots for computer and phone and a private preview link (2 to 3 business days with priority, overnight with rush). Ask for changes in plain words until it's right.

  3. When you're ready

    Approve, pay and launch

Pay the fixed launch fee only when you're happy. With the care plan, we put the site live on your domain and look after it; without it, we hand you the files to host yourself.

Questions architecture firm owners ask

How much does an architecture firm website cost?

Most studios with a real portfolio choose the Pro launch: $999 once for up to 15 pages, room for a page per featured project, paid when you're ready to launch the draft you've approved. Hosting isn't part of the launch fee; it comes with the optional care plan, $49 a month or $490 a year, along with your domain and small edits. See every price, and our guide to what a small business website costs for the alternatives.

Can you build a portfolio that unfolds as you scroll?

Yes. We design scroll motion that reveals each project as people move down the page and keeps images sharp, and it calms itself down for anyone who has asked their device to reduce motion. The Atelier North sample in our work shows the idea.

We're interior designers, not architects. Is this for us?

Yes. The needs are close: a portfolio by project or room, a clear process, your services and fees explained as far as you're comfortable, and an inquiry form that asks about scope, timing and budget.

How many projects should our website show?

Fewer than you'd think: a handful of strong, well-written projects usually says more than every job you've done. Adding a project later is quick, and smaller updates such as new photos or press count among the care plan's 4 small edits a month.

Who owns the website and the photos?

You own the site once the launch fee is paid. Your photography stays yours or your photographer's, under whatever license you have with them, and we credit photographers wherever you ask us to.

Do project pages help an architecture firm show up in search?

Yes, more than a gallery alone, because search engines read the words around images: the project type, the place and what you did. Each project page gets its own title, description and image descriptions, and SEO & AEO care adds ongoing tuning without any promise of rankings.
